Yet another Steam sale?!?!

I do seriously believe that the entire team at Valve have gone off the deep end.

Not even a week after their pretty good EA sale ends, they go ahead and discount pretty much everything else. It comes in two stages – one is a set of the developer packs being discounted from about 30% to even more on some, which will be on sale until July 4th. The other is a rotating set of games over each day of the sale that change, and you only have that day to get them, so keep your eyes peeled on the Steam Store to see if there’s a game you want to grab.

I’m creating this post in order to bring your attention to some of the better packs around and ones you should definitely be looking to purchase.

£5 – 79% Off

Uplink
Darwinia
Multiwinia
DEFCON

Most of you reading this blog will already know how much I love the Introversion games, and the fact you can now get their superb games for a total of a £5 is nothing short of miraculous. Uplink is a fun computer hacking game with some malicious undertones. Darwinia is a very interesting take on an RTS game that’s very difficult to explain without seeing it .Multiwinia is the multiplayer version of Darwinia. DEFCON is based on the war room from the film ‘Wargames’ and focuses on destroying enemies through thermonuclear war whilst defending your own. You can form alliances (there’s a game mode based solely on maintaining a single alliance)

More brilliant bargains after the jump…

Why is the World Cup this year so boring?

Well, the World Cup is well under way, but judging from how a majority of teams are playing, you’d think they’ve sent reserves. Except for the odd game here and there, the matches have been relatively pedestrian in nature and had very little drama or interest to to them. I would actually go as far to say that it’s been quite dull. Of course, each match has it’s moments, such as the shot by Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday which rebounded off the post.

There have been some good games to watch, such as the opener of South Africa vs. Mexico, the surprisingly good Serbia vs. Ghana, the Germany vs. Australia game (if only to see the Germans clinically dissect their opponents with precision) and, dare I say it, the England vs. United States game. The other game which I recommended for this week (France vs. Uruguay), was such a snoozefest, that I actually took a nap and came back to it 10 minutes from time. And of course, there is the odd surprise which you never expect (Switzerland beating Spain and North Korea scoring on Brazil in the last minute), but they can happen in any match, and you never really know what will happen.

But why has the World Cup resulted in so many bore draws and very dull match-ups? I think history and team mentality may play a part.

EA Week on Steam – Images leaked

Good find by Sam over at AltTabbed and the ATK Community on this. Steam is holding an ‘EA Week’ sale, and the first one is Crysis, as shown below. However, they’ve uploaded the images already in (strangly for Valve) very predicitable places under predictable names, so the stuff coming on each day this week is already known, which is great if you considering getting an EA game and wondered which way it was gonna happen. If your like me and bought half the games on this list in the last two weeks though, your shit out of luck. Crysis image is below, the rest are after the jump, just in case for some random reason you don’t like spoilers that might help you save money on a game. Each sale lasts until 10am PST the following day, so for ‘yesterdays’ Crysis sale, you have until 5pm (GMT) today in order to take advantage of it. Gotta love the Americans :D

World Cup Series – Must Watch Group Stage Games

OK, I’ve been a bit lacking in posts due to final exams, but since I now have a week break until the last one, I can get out a quick post about the crucial games you should be watching for the most fun watching football. I’ve also included information on where the games can be shown (mostly ESPN). As the time differences are a little weird and would take a while for me to find decent figures, I’ll rely on the TV Guide to provide you with the details.

This isn’t a be-all-end-all list, and if you can sit down and watch any game, be it live or a repeat, then you’ll be in for a show of some of the best football on show. Obviously, nations like Brazil and Spain will give you the best shows of skill, but sometimes you’ll get a match-up which pits two good teams against each other, and I’ve tried to sum up the ‘must watch’ games for the group stages. Along with these, any match featuring the very top teams (Brazil, Spain, Portugal, England, Holland, Argentina etc.) should be judged as very important games to watch. Germany may also warrant a viewing, as they are your likely opponents in the last 16 (should you make it that far)

And after the jump, we begin with an obvious three matches. As with all World Cup posts here on Addenda Provided, they are brought to you in connection with The Power Trip Morning Show on KFAN AM 1130 (Minneapolis/St. Paul)

World Cup Series – US Roster Review (part 2)

Slightly later than advertised, and in a lesser form, it’s part two of the roster review. Been a bit busy with exam preperation, so midfielders may need to wait a little bit longer, but to be fair, nearly everyone should know of Landon Donovan and his midfield corp. Regardless, I’ll start on that now.

As with all World Cup Series posts, they are brought to you in connection with the Power Trip Moring Show on KFAN AM 1130 Minneapolis. Just an edit to the previous world cup post regarding US v. England and how Capello might utilise Theo Walcott to run straight at Bornstein…..yeah, well Walcott was omitted from the final 23-man roster for the tournament and won’t be travelling to South Africa, so that part is no defunct. That said, England has many other fast wingers who will do much the same as Walcott would have, so the theme of the post remains.

And after the jump, we get to the strikeforce of the United States….or rather, lack of one.

Anonymous Dev slams own game

Short post today, but I thought this was quite interesting.

Alpha Protocol is a third-person espionage role-playing video game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Sega. The game revolves around the adventures of field agent Michael Thorton. After a failed mission, Agent Michael Thorton is cut off from all of his contacts and betrayed by his superiors. Now being hunted by the United States government, Michael uses the “Alpha Protocol”, a protocol normally reserved for senior agents, and begins to operate undercover to reveal the conspiracy.

But is there a conspiracy going on at SEGA’s own headquarters? This is part of a story published by CVG (LINK):

An alleged and anonymous Obsidian developer has blasted his company’s latest RPG, Alpha Protocol, barking on the internet that the game ‘should’ve been cancelled’.

Posting in the comments section of Joystiq’s Alpha Protocol review (which calls the game “a technical nightmare”), the anonymous Obsidian man – known only as ‘a tired dev’ – backs up the US site’s negative comments.

“I worked on this game (a fact of which I am not proud). I’m not here to defend it; I agree with all these reviews,” the post reads.
